Permission to Reproduce Assessment Content

CCL is authorized to approve assessment proposals for research purposes. CCL-approved research proposals grant researchers limited permission to reproduce assessment content. Researchers are charged a $100 fee per research proposal submitted for approval.

Complete and submit the online Assessment Request Permission Form for processing. You will be notified of your status by e-mail within five business days.

For more information, please contact us at [email protected].

Who may submit a proposal?

Any researcher external to CCL or in organizations affiliated with CCL, as well as any CCL employee or intern conducting research not sponsored by CCL.

Which assessments are available?

Content from the following assessments are available for research proposal consideration.

The Campbell Leadership Descriptor is a forty-item paper and pencil self-assessment designed to help individuals discover their strengths and weaknesses in nine major leadership attributes: vision, management, empowerment, diplomacy, feedback, entrepreneurialism, personal style, personal energy, and multicultural awareness. Visit CCL.org for information on the assessment.

The Developmental Challenge Profile is the foundation for the Job Challenge Profile distributed by Jossey-Bass Pfeiffer. The Developmental Challenge Profile contains more scales and items than the Job Challenge Profile and does not reflect the most up-to-date research. CCL does not offer retail distribution of the Developmental Challenge Profile but continues to offer the Developmental Challenge Profile for research opportunities.

The Job Challenge Profile is designed to help managers understand and use their job assignments as opportunities for learning and growth. Five major challenges are assessed: experiencing a job transition, creating change, managing high levels of responsibility, managing boundaries, and dealing with diversity. The Job Challenge Profile is a 50-item paper and pencil self-report assessment. Visit CCL.org for information on the assessment.

The Learning Tactics Inventory is a 32-item paper and pencil self-report instrument designed for individuals who wish to become better at learning from experience. The Learning Tactics Inventory provides individuals with information about how they learn and illustrates behaviors that they can adopt to become more versatile learners. Visit CCL.org for information on the assessment.

What can I expect to receive from CCL?

CCL provides approved researchers with access to the assessment questionnaire, as well as to the sample and technical reports (if applicable). Researchers will also receive a letter of approval to use the assessment content for research purposes only.

What needs to be in the proposal?

  • The purpose and merits of the research.
  • The study’s research questions and/or hypotheses.
  • The assessment being requested.
  • How the data will be used, including the variables of interest and the proposed statistical analyses.
  • Details on the target sample and population.
  • Data storage procedures for maintaining participant confidentiality.
  • The names and titles of all those who will have access to the data, whether or not they are working directly with the data.
  • The credentials of the researcher(s) (including degree, institution, current affiliation, any relevant publications).
  • Contact information for the primary researcher (address, phone, and e-mail).
  • If you are a student, add a letter of support from your academic advisor, including his or her phone number and email address.
  • If you are interested in having CCL faculty collaborate with you on this project, please indicate that in your cover note. (We will let you know if there is someone whose research interests align with your proposed study.)
  • Please limit your proposal to 2–3 pages.

For a research project to be approved, it must have technical merit, be of interest to CCL, and be conceptually and methodologically sound. Approval decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. Acceptance of the proposal will in no way limit CCL’s ability to conduct future research in similar areas of inquiry.

How do I submit my request?

Complete and submit the online Assessment Request Permission Form that includes the research proposal. The review process will not begin until the request form is submitted with the completed and attached research proposal included.

How long does the approval process take?

You will be notified of your proposal status by e-mail within 5 business days. Upon approval, survey materials will be sent to you by email within 7 business days.

How much does it cost?

There is a $100 fee per reviewed and approved research proposal.

Are there other conditions pertaining to approved assessment use?

  • Researchers must acknowledge receipt of permission and copyright notice in all published works.
  • Published research works approved by CCL using Campbell Leadership Descriptor, Learning Tactics Inventory; and Job Challenge Profile must clearly denote “Authorized approval granted for {LTI/CLD/JCP} by Center for Creative Leadership for research purposes. Copyright© Pfeiffer/a Wiley Imprint.”
  • Researchers must use the appropriate trademarks, service marks, and copyrights, where applicable.
  • Researchers must put procedures in place to protect the content of assessments from use by others, as well as to protect the confidentiality of any data collected.
  • Researchers must give CCL the opportunity to review any papers or presentations that result from their research before they are submitted for publication.
  • Researchers must provide CCL with (1) copy of any papers resulting from the research upon completion of the project. This includes, but is not limited to, dissertations, journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, and electronic publications. When a paper is submitted for publication, a copy should be provided to CCL.
