Based on her article about sex-biased scales in organizational citizenship behavior (i.e., workplace helping behavior), a SAGE journal editor invited CCL’s Diane Bergeron to write a SAGE Perspectives blog post. In it, she discusses her work (with coauthor Kylie Rochford) in discovering how many commonly-used citizenship behavior scales were largely developed on male samples. Implications of this include the perpetuation of systemic gender bias and the fact that women’s helping behavior in organizations gets largely ‘disappeared’ as women continue to take on the wifely role in organizations.
