Summary
This paper examines the continuing deficit in leadership skills, the reasons why the leadership deficit continues, and the resulting leadership gaps for organizations. Two research studies are reviewed, one by the Center for Creative Leadership and one by APQC. Twenty key skills and perspectives were rated by organizations and leaders in the the Center for Creative Leadership survey. Of those 20 competencies, nine were identified as critical for success, now and in the future. Also identified and discussed are six key gaps between current leadership skills and futures leadership demands, and the steps that organizations can take to bridge the leadership gap.
